Pilates, yoga &
Joint replacement Bootcamp
Pilates is a series of exercises created to improve core stability and strengthen the postural muscles of the entire body. Emphasis is on using the deep abdominals including the tranverse abdominus as well as the pelvic floor muscles to perform functional exercises.
The benefits of pilates include:
1. Aiding in injury rehabilitation (including back and neck pain)
2. Developing postural and abdominal muscles
3. Preventing injury and/or re-injury
4. Improving body awareness and posture
5. Improving athletic ability in all sports
6. Increasing range of motion and flexibility
7. Developing more defined and leaner muscles
8. Stress relief
9. Aiding with recovery and/or prevention of urinary incontinence and pelvic floor dysfunction
Classes are based on the STOTT principle of pilates and will be instructed by a physiotherapist. Participant numbers are small (6-8 participants per class) allowing for close supervision to emphasise correct technique. Sessions will be 8 weeks long and participants will have the choice of attending 1 or 2 times a week. Classes are all "beginner level" and will advance to intermediate as participants progress together.

Wednesdays: 6:10 PM – 7 PM
Thursdays: 12:10 PM – 1 PM
Class Prices:
1 session/week, 8 weeks $280
2 sessions/week, 8 weeks $530 ($30 savings)

Yoga is a practice that connects the body to the mind and, emotional and spiritual self in order to achieve an ultimate state of well-being. This integration is achieved through a structured sequence of body postures or exercises called Anasas with an emphasis on breathing throughout the practice.
The benefits of Yoga include:
- Improved flexibilty
- Improved balance
- Improved muscle strength and core stability
- Improved cardiovascular endurance and increased energy
- Calms the nervous system and relieves stress
- Improved concentration and mental focus
- Prevents injury and re-injury
Classes are based on a Hatha-style yoga and will be instructed by a Physiotherapist. Partcipant numbers are small (6-8 particpants per class) allowing for close supervision to emphasise correct technique. Sessions will be 8 weeks long. Classes are all "beginner level" and will advance to intermediate as participants progress together.

Specific exercise after joint replacement is essential. Professionally supported exercise reduces pain, speeds healing and gets you back to your optimal level of function. This is why Marpole Physiotherapy, from our Vancouver based clinic, is now offering Joint Replacement Bootcamp. This program is designed for people who have had a hip or knee replacement, or for those who are awaiting a joint replacement surgery.
Joint Replacement Bootcamp consists of land-based exercises, focusing on flexibity, strenght, balance and endurance. In addition, class participants will receive education on living with their new joint replacement.
Classes run twice a week, for 6 weeks, 90 minutes per session. Each class cost $45 and includes 15 minutes of one on one time with the physiotherapist. An initial, individual assessment with the physiotherapist is required before classes start. The initial assessment will cost $70 for 30 minutes.
Class Times:
Tuesdays: 5.00PM - 6.30PM
Fridays: 1.30PM - 3.00PM
